Unfolding Light comes in close enough that the scent of blossom seems only a breath away. Spring arrives here all at once, with nothing held back — new life pressing outward from the centre of the canvas faster than the dark around it can contain.
The paint carries that energy. It is laid on thickly with the knife, each petal turned in a single curving pass so the motion that made it stays in the surface, and the leaves are swept outward with the same quick confidence, as though the whole branch were still opening while the paint was wet. NeuroArts is interested in how looking draws in the rest of the body — how a painting that is seen can also be felt, and sometimes very nearly smelled.
That nearness is the gift of the piece. Growth of this kind keeps its own season, and no deadline hurries it; it arrives when it is ready, and it arrives in abundance. Unfolding Light holds the moment of that arrival — a burst of new life, and a quiet reminder of the patient, unseen work that makes such a moment possible.
